A new independent cafe at New Acres in Wandsworth is due to open on Saturday, with £1 classic coffees available for four hours as Slow Mornings launches at Pilots Walk.

A new independent cafe is due to open in Wandsworth this Saturday, with £1 classic coffees on offer for part of its first day of trading.

Slow Mornings, at Unit 6A, Pilots Walk, New Acres, will open from 9am on Saturday, October 31. The £1 coffee offer will run from 10am to 2pm, and the opening day will also include a live DJ.

The business is a joint venture from Tayo and Nia Ekanem, who say they want the cafe to become a community-focused space in the New Acres development.

Opening day plans at New Acres

According to the details shared about the launch, customers will be able to buy a selection of classic coffees for £1 during the four-hour promotion. Examples given include an espresso or cappuccino.

Slow Mornings is opening at New Acres, a development in Wandsworth described in the source as having 1,000 new homes and 50 independent retailers. The cafe is one of the retailers now opening there.

The shop will trade from 9am on Saturday, October 31, but the discounted drinks are set to be available from 10am until 2pm. The couple said they wanted the opening to bring energy as one of the last shops to open in the development.

Founders say cafe will reflect their background

The couple said they want to bring creativity and diversity into the space, including through the drinks menu. Their offerings include a matcha with zobo flavour, described in the source as inspired by a popular Nigerian drink, as well as Milo hot chocolate.

Nia Ekanem said: “With speciality coffee, it’s such a niche industry, and you don’t get much Black/African diaspora in that space, so it was important we brought our culture into it. We want to represent who we are through the coffee we sell.”

The pair also said they want customers to see them in the shop day to day, with Nia making coffee and Tayo working front of house. They described the business as rooted in community as well as hospitality.

When the cafe will be open

After launch day, Slow Mornings plans to open from 8am to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday to Friday, the stated opening hours are 7am to 3pm.

Tayo Ekanem said: “We are all about giving back. We want to be community-focused.”

The cafe’s address is Unit 6A, Pilots Walk, New Acres, Wandsworth. Opening begins at 9am on Saturday, October 31, with the £1 coffee offer running from 10am to 2pm.
