Camden Council has approved a new protected cycle lane running along Chalk Farm Road, connecting Camden Town to Primrose Hill. The £2.4 million scheme, funded by Transport for London, will widen pavements, add new pedestrian crossings and remove 38 on-street parking bays.
Construction begins in January and is expected to take four months. During consultation, local business owners voiced concerns about losing parking, but the council prioritised cycling and pedestrian safety on one of Camden’s busiest routes.
The scheme is part of a broader plan to make Camden “one of the most walkable and cyclable boroughs in London” by 2030. A similar project is being considered for Royal College Street, which already has a two-way cycle track installed in 2015.
The loss of parking will affect businesses along the route. Local business owners raised concerns during consultation about the loss of parking.
