An evening celebrating the release of The Bishop of Durham Attempts to Surrender the City, a new illustrated short story by Susanna Clarke. Set in 1110 A.D., the tale follows the Bishop of Durham as he navigates a landscape of magical forces — from fairy hosts to enchanted forests — while attempting to surrender the city under siege. The narrative weaves together medieval magic, uncooperative rivers and a cast of deceptive fairy queens, shape-shifting stags and the mysterious Raven King.
Clarke, the award-winning author of Piranesi and Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, will be joined in conversation by V. E. Schwab, a bestselling novelist whose prolific output includes the Villains series, the Shades of Magic universe, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil. Following the discussion, Clarke will sign books — two per person, including one copy of The Bishop of Durham. A book and ticket bundle option includes a copy of the new work for collection on the evening.
