Sapphic Cinema showcases FLINTA (femme, lesbian, intersex, nonbinary, trans, asexual) narratives through queer cinema. This event pairs a film screening with a live performance.
Film: Shakedown (2018)
Director Leilah Weinraub documents the eight-year history of Shakedown, a nomadic black lesbian strip club in Los Angeles. Filmed with the intimacy of a home movie, the work captures the club as a world shaped by its community's desires and pleasures, presenting what Weinraub describes as "the before and after of a utopic moment." The film achieves a striking tenderness in portraying its subjects and the dreamlike, propulsive energy of the space.
The venue bar opens from 2pm; arrival by 6pm recommended to settle in comfortably. A live performance accompanies the screening, details to follow.
