Inspired by Black History Month's theme of honouring communities, Root to Rise creates a welcoming space where self-care and connection strengthen the neighbourhood. Whether you are new to yoga or deepening an existing practice, these sessions welcome all experience levels.
Led by British-Nigerian yoga teacher Fola Otesanya, each class weaves together movement, breathwork and rest, with modifications and props available throughout. Fola's teaching emphasises how poses feel rather than how they look, encouraging participants to build awareness and trust in their own bodies.
Beyond the practice itself, the gathering includes refreshments, fresh fruit and music celebrating African diaspora traditions, with space to meet fellow residents. The classes are free for Haringey residents; those from outside the borough are invited to contribute on a pay-what-you-can basis to support the series and the Bernie Grant Arts Centre. Sessions run 11:00-12:30, with arrival from 10:50.
