This one-day in-person symposium brings together researchers, clinicians, early-career scientists and patient advocates to examine the rising prevalence of early onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC) and strategies for improving prevention, detection and treatment. The programme covers EOCRC biology and mechanisms, risk factors and early detection methods, screening challenges, and the interplay between the microbiome, immune system and environment.
The day features keynote and invited speakers alongside selected oral presentations and poster sessions, with ample time for networking and discussion. A signature element is the ECR Dragon's Den, where early-career researchers pitch innovative, high-risk research ideas to expert judges—ideas that may lack preliminary data or conventional funding track records but could open new research directions. Selected pitches will be presented live with an award for the winning proposal.
Additional highlights include a PROSPECT session on inclusive and diverse recruitment to research, and a media-facing panel on how collaboration, data sharing, patient involvement, funding and infrastructure can accelerate EOCRC progress. Awards recognise the best oral presentation, poster and Dragon's Den pitch. The symposium concludes with informal drinks and networking.
Abstract submissions are welcomed across mechanisms of EOCRC, risk factors and prevention, microbiome and immunology, genetics, clinical research and patient outcomes, and patient experience and supportive care.
