The Folklore Society presents an evening featuring Dr Yinka Olusoga from the University of Sheffield, who leads the British Academy-funded Childhoods and Play project centred on the Iona and Peter Opie Archive. Her lecture, 'Carving, Mining, Weaving and Forging of Identities, Connection and Belonging: A personal exploration of children's folklife and why it matters', examines the role of folklore in children's lives and cultural identity.
Following the lecture, The Katharine Briggs Award 2026 will be announced, honouring the book judged to have made the most distinguished contribution to folklore studies in the past year, alongside the President's Prizes for outstanding student work in the field. The evening concludes with a drinks reception.
Doors open at 6:30pm.
