Discover the extraordinary diversity of fungi on a hands-on field day led by Dr Mark Spencer, an internationally respected botanist and experienced mycologist. Participants will spend the day finding, identifying and recording fungal species at Stanmore Common, a 122-hectare Local Nature Reserve featuring mature woodland, acid grassland and wetland habitats.
This outdoor learning experience welcomes nature enthusiasts of all levels—from complete beginners to seasoned recorders. You will gain practical skills in fungal identification, direct access to expert guidance, and the chance to connect with fellow nature lovers. All records collected contribute to iRecord, sharing findings with site managers, the London Natural History Society and relevant national recording schemes.
The day runs entirely outdoors, so weather-appropriate clothing is essential. Please bring your own lunch. Note that this is a recording event, not a foraging expedition; foraging is strictly prohibited. Some experienced mycologists may collect specimens for further investigation.
