This professional development event, organised by IHBC London, South East & South Branches, brings together heritage professionals and local authorities to explore enforcement powers and best practice in protecting historic buildings.
Led by Bob Kindred MBE IHBC, a heritage specialist with over 40 years of experience across public, private and voluntary sectors, the day covers enforcement under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, relevant policy frameworks including the National Planning Policy Framework, and practical approaches to prosecutions. Sessions include case studies demonstrating successful and unsuccessful enforcement strategies, techniques for writing offence reports and evidence documentation, interactions with enforcement officers and prosecution solicitors, and guidance on heritage crime sentencing. The programme also addresses the role of councillors and delegated decision-making.
The timetable runs from 11:00 to 16:30, with refreshments, lunch and networking breaks included. A dedicated Q&A session closes the day.
