Boudewijn Thomas, co-founder of MVRDV NEXT and lead of decarbonisation at the Dutch architecture practice MVRDV, explores how architecture can drive measurable climate action. He works at the intersection of design, climate science, computation and real-world implementation — developing carbon design tools, climate guidelines and project-specific decarbonization strategies that turn environmental ambition into tangible results.
Thomas is Executive Sustainability Program Partner of the Council on Vertical Urbanism, an international organization advancing sustainable tall buildings and urban density. His team created CarbonSpace, an open platform for early-stage embodied carbon assessment in architecture. Through his practice, Thomas demonstrates how architects can integrate carbon intelligence into everyday design decisions, equipping the profession with practical pathways to reduce buildings' environmental footprint.
