Step into the cinematic universe of Suzuki Seijun with Tokyo Drifter (1966), a landmark yakuza film that redefined the genre through its striking visual design, bold colour palette and inventive storytelling. The film follows a former yakuza actor Watari Tetsuya as he attempts to escape his past, only to find himself drifting from place to place. Watari also performs the film's unforgettable title song, which weaves through the narrative as a central musical thread.
This screening marks the opening of Japan House London's new season celebrating Suzuki Seijun's maverick vision and artistic fearlessness—qualities that would establish him as one of world cinema's most influential cult directors. The film is presented in Japanese with English subtitles.
The screening runs approximately 83 minutes. Attendees receive 10% off drinks at the Stand bar on site (open until 20:00 Monday–Saturday, until 18:00 Sundays). Please note that photography and filming may occur during the event and may be used to promote Japan House London.
