The David Gordon Trio returns to Hampstead Jazz Club for an evening featuring two distinct sets. The first half presents In C, material from their latest album, built around the concept of performing every piece in the key of C—a unifying thread that connects remarkably varied moods and styles. From the openness of 'Greenland' to the brightness of 'Choro Moreno', each composition retains its own character within a larger musical journey.
The second set takes a more improvisational approach, drawing from the trio's broader repertoire and leaving room for spontaneity. With looser structure and music developing in the moment, the ensemble explores familiar material through a fresh, unscripted lens. Together, the two sets showcase both the precision of carefully conceived composition and the spontaneity that defines a live jazz performance.
