The Conch brings together emerging artists presenting experimental work in development. Following each performance, the audience becomes part of the creative dialogue, invited to offer feedback, questions and personal reflections that shape the artistic process.
Georgina Hill examines the largely forgotten world of cottage industries across Britain, where women and families produced goods by hand from their homes even as industrial manufacturing grew. Combining family stories, archival documents and fragments of historical records, the performance constructs an imagined account of domestic labour and the people who sustained it.
Alia Hamaoui reworks footage and sound from the behind-the-scenes production of the crime film 8 Femmes, exploring how space and architecture can drive narrative. The performance layers rehearsal material and multiple temporal frames, positioning buildings and objects as central characters in the unfolding story.
Beatrice Vorster presents BOO!, emerging from an upcoming short film made with Yasmin Vardi. This work deconstructs the ghost-movie genre through a for-sale property equipped with smart home features—a house that turns the tables with poltergeist vengeance. The live performance extends the film, remixed with a sound sculpture, reel-to-reel tape machine and film foley.
