This workshop explores how students and teachers can both fall prey to illusions of knowing—when learners overestimate their understanding and educators assume expertise that students haven't yet developed. The session examines how prioritising factual and procedural knowledge over conceptual understanding creates these blind spots.
EeCheng Ong from the National University of Singapore guides participants through the design and use of concept checks: targeted, brief questions that identify specific learning bottlenecks and build both conceptual and metacognitive knowledge. This practical approach helps bridge the gap between what students think they know and what they actually understand.
Due to limited in-person capacity, attendance is exclusively online via Microsoft Teams.
