Experience the art of Kenjutsu, the traditional samurai sword technique, through an intensive introductory workshop at the Niten Institute. This 2-hour experimental class introduces you to Niten Ichi Ryu, the legendary two-sword fighting style developed by the undefeated samurai Miyamoto Musashi.
The session covers three advanced katas created by Musashi himself (long sword, short sword and two swords), basic Kenjutsu combat strikes, and practical application in full armour against opponents. You will also explore the philosophy and values of the samurai and how they apply to modern life.
All equipment (shinai, bokuto, bogu) rental is included in the ticket price. The Niten Institute teaches traditional samurai martial arts schools including Suio Ryu Iai Kenpo (featured in the graphic novel Lone Wolf and Cub), Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu (created 700 years ago), and others, with particular emphasis on Niten Ichi Ryu. A senior dojo coordinator will guide you throughout.
