This dynamic training session from Clean Break equips theatre professionals, participation facilitators, stage managers, and audience care teams with essential knowledge and skills for trauma-informed practice. Developed over four decades of groundbreaking work with women who have experienced the criminal justice system, the course builds confidence in delivering trauma-informed theatre-making and community work.
Participants will explore what trauma is and how it manifests, understand the social context of trauma, learn practical implementation strategies for trauma-informed practice, and discover how to maintain your own wellbeing when working with challenging themes. The training is led by Clean Break's Member Support team—Jacqueline Stewart (Head of Participation and Deputy CEO) and Tracey Anderson (Support Manager)—both with extensive experience in social care, youth work, and trauma-informed practice.
This course caters to different learning styles and welcomes all genders. It is ideal for anyone creating work with difficult narratives or responsible for audience care, and the principles taught have been implemented at leading UK theatres including the National Theatre, Almeida Theatre, Bush Theatre, Sheffield Crucible and Donmar Warehouse.
