Bloomsbury Baroque explores the musical heritage of Huguenot composers who worked in England and France between the early seventeenth and late eighteenth centuries. This concert features works by Nicholas Lanier, de Sainte-Colombe, Prelleur, and the Barthelemon family, tracing how these musicians integrated into British cultural life. The narrative is anchored by the figure of David Garrick and his family's connections to France, brought to life through historical accounts and correspondence.
The ensemble brings this repertoire to vibrant life on period instruments: soprano Philippa Hyde is joined by flutist and recorder player William Summers, violinist Diane Moore, cellist Ibrahim Aziz, and harpsichordist Yeo Yat-Soon. Ellis Jones and Sue Bell provide spoken word context, grounding the music in its historical setting.
The performance runs without a break and concludes around 7:45pm. Refreshments are available from 6:00 to 6:30pm. Advance booking offers reduced admission prices.
