Dark Mountain celebrates 16 years of documenting the creative voices of writers and artists bearing witness to ecological and societal collapse. This launch marks the final issue in the biannual series, themed around endings and what it means when things come to a close.
The issue features contributions from editors and long-time collaborators, reflecting on cessation through diverse forms: a nurse's meditations in a hospice, an elegy for the IPCC Report, tales of the last scribe sheltered among books. Spanning continents and perspectives, the collection moves from wildfires in Spain to a starlit vigil in the Scottish Highlands, from coal-mine activism in Aotearoa New Zealand to a Montana canoe journey exploring human traces. Throughout, non-human presences shape the narrative—glaciers speak, toads trust, oaks prophesy, and bears, hawks, elks and countless other creatures inhabit these pages.
Join contributors and editors for readings, conversation, and reflections on what comes next for the Dark Mountain project. Warm drinks will follow.
