Dark Energy is a sound art night built around "Sound Art for Sound Systems", putting bass at the centre of the experience. This fifth edition brings together a line-up of experimental electronic artists, each presenting something very different in low-end sound design.
Resident artist Gary Stewart, known as Bantu, previews the latest chapter of his electro-Nyabinghi project, combining robust percussion loops, Strega noise motifs and archival spoken word and chants. RENU (Renu Hossain), a percussionist, composer and producer, shows a passage from her new work "BREAKING 4/4", performing with modular synthesis and live percussion. Dushume (Dr Amit Patel) unleashes his dense bass cloud, which sits somewhere between drone and pulse. Co-curator Aniruddha Das presents DSPSSSSD ("dispossessed"), the sister project of Dhangsha, pairing deep bass pulses with non-metric noise and aggressive granular synthesis.
Proceeds from the event go directly to supporting families in Gaza.
