Explore the hidden mathematical patterns that underpin human creativity and the natural world. Mathematician and science communicator Marcus du Sautoy reveals how mathematics shapes art, music, architecture, design and literature — from neolithic stone circles and Bach to modernist buildings and Radiohead.
Du Sautoy, the Simonyi Professor for the Public Understanding of Science at the University of Oxford and author of Blueprints: How Mathematics Shapes Creativity, has built a career making maths accessible by uncovering its unexpected connections to everyday culture. Discover the prime numbers, symmetry, fractals and hyperbolic geometry that lie beneath the works of artists, musicians and designers throughout history.
The talk runs approximately 45 minutes, followed by a Q&A session, with the event aiming to finish by 9pm. Copies of Blueprints will be available for purchase.
