Arko and Kanishka, based between Berlin and Kolkata, are pioneering a distinctive fusion of electronica with Indian traditional folk, root and tribal music. Their live project creates a vibrant world folk soundscape that reflects the contemporary subcontinent, where heritage and modernity coexist. The music draws from boatmen's songs, nomadic tribal traditions, Sufi devotional music and rural celebration, weaving these voices together through a modern, funky syncretic framework. The journey spans from Himalayan villages to Bengali river deltas and drought-affected rural regions, capturing the stories of everyday people across the subcontinent.
This performance is part of Theatreship's guest nights, where visiting contemporary artists take creative control of the venue to share their own narratives. The ship opens at 4pm with a relaxed bar and top deck atmosphere; arrive by 7pm to enjoy a drink and settle into your seats before the performance. Ticketship is committed to accessible arts: those who cannot afford standard prices are encouraged to contact the venue for support, and arts supporter tickets are available for those who can pay more to help subsidise others.
