Experience an evening of mesmerising intercultural music with Al-Firdaus Ensemble, a Granada-based group founded in 2012 by English violinist and singer Ali Keeler. The ensemble brings together musicians from England, Spain and Morocco to create a unique synthesis of Western classical composition, Celtic and Flamenco influences, alongside traditional Sufi music from Arabic, Andalusi and Turkish sources.
The programme features original compositions and new arrangements of songs drawn from the rich heritage of Sufi poetry, with lyrics primarily in Arabic from celebrated poets such as Ibn Arabi and Al Shushtari. A particular highlight is their musical interpretation of aljamiado poetry - Spanish written in Arabic script by the Moriscos - reviving a cultural legacy that was suppressed in its time.
The ensemble performs in flexible formations using a blend of Arabic and Western classical instruments alongside flamenco guitar, with singers ranging from soloists to chorus performers. Having toured extensively across Europe, the Balkans, the USA, North Africa, Turkey, the Middle East and Malaysia, they bring an accomplished international presence to this special evening.
The event is hosted by award-winning TV presenter, journalist and author Kristiane Backer, known for her MTV Europe career and her work in intercultural dialogue. Tickets are available for in-person attendance or live online streaming.
