Amnesty Feminists and Cheer Up Luv unite for the launch of Don't be a bystander, a campaign addressing male violence against women and girls. Organised with SOAS Amnesty Society and SOAS Intersectional Feminist Society as part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, this event combines visual activism with urgent discussion.
The evening features an exhibition by Cheer Up Luv, an award-winning photography project by Eliza Hatch showcasing survivors' stories and confronting gender-based violence. Visitors can engage with portraits and narratives, and are welcomed to contribute their own reflections if comfortable doing so. Free refreshments will be served during the exhibition viewing.
A panel discussion explores what ending male violence against women and girls demands in universities and beyond. Eliza Hatch, investigative journalist Ellie Flynn and other speakers will discuss why students are the campaign's initial focus, examining gaps in current government strategies that leave out students, older women, sex workers, refugee and asylum-seeking women, trans women, and disabled women. The panel welcomes questions and engagement from all attendees.
The campaign calls for comprehensive action — not partial measures. Students, academics, men and boys, and allies are all invited to participate in creating real change.
