A man has been jailed after Metropolitan Police officers on patrol in north London caught him filming through the windows of women’s homes in Islington, according to the force.
Anthony Durkan, 36, was sentenced to four years in prison at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to 26 voyeurism charges. Police said he was arrested during a proactive patrol in March 2026 after officers increased their presence in the area following reports from local women.
The Met said the case began after a woman reported in January that a man had repeatedly come to her home during the early hours of the morning and filmed through her windows. Her neighbour had alerted her after seeing a man dressed in black and wearing a balaclava approach the property, hold a mobile phone up to the windows and record inside before leaving.
Reports from women led to targeted patrols
Weeks later, another woman told police she had also seen a man recording her through her window in Islington. She confronted the suspect, who then ran off. Police said the incident was captured on a security camera.
After those reports, officers stepped up targeted patrols in the area. During one of those patrols in March 2026, police said they caught Durkan in the act and arrested him.
Detective Chief Inspector Gemma Alger, whose team led the investigation, said: “Durkan carried out a calculated and deeply intrusive campaign of offending, targeting women in what should have been the safety and privacy of their own homes. Many victims had no idea they were being watched and filmed.”
Police found more material on seized devices
Police said that after Durkan’s arrest, officers examined devices seized from him and found evidence of further voyeurism offences dating back to January 2020.
According to the Met, hundreds of images and videos of women were discovered across a number of devices. Officers are still trying to establish how many different women are affected.
The force said the investigation is still active despite the conviction and sentencing. Detectives are asking women in Islington and across north London who noticed unusual activity around their home between January 2020 and March 2026 – particularly late at night or in the early hours of the morning – to come forward.
How to contact the investigation team
The Met said anyone who may have relevant information can contact the investigation team directly by email at [email protected]. Information can also be passed anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
DCI Alger said: “I would like to thank the victims for the courage they showed in coming forward and supporting this investigation. Their actions, alongside the proactive work of officers who identified and stopped Durkan’s offending, have undoubtedly prevented further harm.”
Police have not said how many women may have been filmed, but the appeal makes clear that detectives believe there could be more potential victims who have not yet spoken to officers. The force is continuing its enquiries.
